50th wedding annv?
may 25th would have been my in-laws 50th annv. they were looking forward to it and planning for a long time. We have a room booked in palm beach and everything is set. last week my father in law passed away. mom keeps going on and on about this party and how much they wanted this. i was thinking, is there any reason we still couldn’t do it? And does anyone have any ideas or stories to share as to how we could make this really special for her. she loves to dance and has 3 sons so theres something.
You should absolutely have the party, and I agree with the “Irish wake” sentiment. If your MIL wants the party, then by all means it should go through, and serve as a celebration of their life together. I think it’s a nice send off for your FIL and a lovely way of remembering their marriage.
MAKE SURE every single guest is aware of the situation though, so they don’t inadvertantly bring a card or a gift for the anniversary. Also, they should know that it’s not going to be a funeral type gathering. Maybe you can write a short note explaining the situation and mail it to the guests you cannot reach by phone.
Also, if your MIL is okay with it, maybe each of her three sons could take a turn dancing with her to her wedding song, in memory of their father.
