The Indian Pacific spans 4352kms from Sydney to Perth.

The rail journey travels in a straight line along the beautiful dry and deserted region of the Nullarbor Plain.
It shows the talents of not only the engineering skills of those who lured in harsh conditions more than a century ago to put together the transcontinental link, but also the nature of Australia’s long-distance passenger rail network.
The Indian Pacific passes across only three cities, two of them little more than large mining towns, and on the Nullarbor Plain there is pretty much few things to spot, unless you’re lucky enough to spot a wedge-tailed eagle or kangaroos.
The many travellers who have taken the three days and nights, east-west journey are seeking an alternative vacation rather than seeing the city views, suburban regions or flourishing fauna.
They’ve chosen a train holiday because travellers want to experience the large expanse of the Australian desert, where hour after hour a clear line of horizon separates a seemingly endless stretch of red ground from a cool blue sky.
Holidaymakers can take a trip in an air conditioned comfortable train and have available to them world class services and facilities that are available in many overseas luxury trains.
The Indian Pacific has two compartments with top and bottom sleeping passenger accommodation and private shower and toilet.
There are designated carriages for social events and feasting. Alcohol is is offered on the train at reasonable prices.
In Australia, one of the long distance train holidays is the Indian Pacific.
The Ghan, with similar features and owned by the same company, Great Southern Railway, travels north to south through the outback of Australia, from the Top End to Adelaide and vice versa. The 2979km voyage takes two days and two nights.
The for The Ghan fluctuates from about $1312 /per person single cabin to $1970 twin share/per person. Prices may differ according to whether it is high, shoulder or low season and for example students, pensioners and overseas tourists are entitled to travel discounts.
