America The Beautiful Collecting?
I am interested in starting to collect the “america the beautiful quarters.” Which type would it be best to collect? The silver proof set? Uncirculated set? Regular non silver proof set? or just getting the circulating set?
Which will hold its value the best?
I’m thinking it might be better to own the uncirculated or regular proof set because they are the same as the coins that will be in circulation, compared to the silver proof set, which is made of a different material than the real coins.
Is that wise?
What about getting the uncirculated set that includes both p and d mints?
Any information and or opinions you can give me will be appreciated!
If you’re looking for which one is likely to hold it’s value the best, go for the silver proofs. They’re usually minted in smaller quantities than the regular proofs, and they’ll never go below the melt value of the silver in them. And personally, I like the look of the silver proofs.
Of course, if you get them out of circulation, they’ll never fall below what it costs you to collect them. If you’re interested in collecting both the P and D mints, it’s a little tougher, unless you live somewhere that you get a good mix of both mints in circulation.
A few years ago, they changed the way the uncirculated set coins were produced. They used to be pulled from regular circulation strikes, and now they’re a special “satin finish” that don’t look like the coins you get in circulation. I’m not fond of it, but you make like the way they look.
