Bullion Scales
Why are libertarians always big conspiracy theory nuts?

Who believe in all this illuminati one world government crap and 9/11 conspiracy theories? Where is the evidence for these preposterous conclusions, no one wants a One World Government except for a couple of liberal nutters in the UN. Also where do they get this idea that we should abolish the Federal Reserve, are they stupid? How are we going to target interest rates and control monetary policy if we don’t have a central bank? Every single developed nation in the world has a central bank, I think libertarians would rather just have people carry gold bullion, weighing scales and a saw around to the supermarkets when they want to buy food.

Because you just made that up. Libertarians are NOT conspiracy nuts. I am a libertarian and I believe we landed on the moon, that OBL was behind 9/11, Oswald acted alone, etc. Feel free to invent more “facts” as you go along.

Abolishing the Federal Reserve is something I don’t support, but the reasoning behind is sound. The Fed is a political body. It’s membership is elected politically, and it’s decisions are affected by political calculations. It’s favoring of pro-inflationary strategies help make heavy spending by the government possible because it reduces the effective debt burden. Personally, I think the Gold standard had enough problems that I would rather REFORM the Fed, abolishing it’s mission to encourage growth. It should ONLY exist to protect the value of the currency.

And by the way, your knowledge of history is weak. the Gold standard did have problems, but under a gold standard, people don’t walk around with boullion. It is simply that currency is always backed up dollar for dollar with gold in the bank. Right now, your dollar’s value is only worth anything because other people AGREE that it is worth something. In a crisis that reduced people’s confidence in the dollar you could go from holding many thousands of dollars in your hand to holding useless scraps of paper that are only good for lighting fires when you don’t have enough kindling. I don’t want the Gold standard, but don’t pretend that it was some outrageous failure. The Fed has had just as many if not MORE failures.
