Different types of casting metal?
I am allergic to cheap metals like nickel, and I want to make a belt buckle that I wont be allergic to. I have the equipment to make it, but Id like to know the different types of meatal that can easily be used, and are FAIRLY cheap, I dont want gold or silver. Any suggestions?
silicone bronze, aluminum (probably really too soft and brittle for a belt buckle).
Bronze is about $5 per pounds. As you don’t need that much it is affordable
Actually I’ve known more people who used copper, bronze or brass coldworked (repousse) and silver soldered.
If you use blacksmithing and welding steel would be cheapest, though as stainless steel is really hard to work you’d get into problems with rust eventually.
I don’t think pewter has too much stability either.
I suggest you first try out bronze.
