What is the value/rarity of a Japanese Arisaka T-44 Cavalry Carbine, Series 1?
I have the opportunity to buy a Japanese Arisaka cavalry carbine but I don’t want to overpay for it. I know these are rare in shooting condition. The question is, would you pay $300 for one? I’ve been collecting milsurps for a long time but haven’t gotten a Japanese rifle yet. I’ll thank the naysayers in advance for not telling me what pieces of junk they think Japanese rifles are and that I shouldn’t fire one. Thanks for the help.
I forgot to mention the “mum” has been ground off and it has no dust cover
Also, bolt is non matching and sight ears are gone. Seller paid 400 for it. wants to sell for 300. Does the rarity of the rifle still justify the price?
Caliber is 6.5. Thanks for the responses so far.
In point of fact the Arisaka is known and proven to be one of the most overbuilt and strongest of bolt action rifles. The 7.7 converts over to 30-06 very easily. I have a few of them in my collection and am still searching for a mum model of each. Three bills for the carbine is a fair price without the mum; I have paid up to seven hundred for a clean unaltered type 99. It will only be worth more as time goes by. The dust cover was usually taken off and dumped by the first person to whom the rifle was issued so don’t sweat it; if you want a dust cover check with Numrich Arms. I have gotten some screws and a spring for a 99 from them with no problem. Ditto a rear sight.
