whats the best copper paint available to cover a very small hole in a copper plated ornament?
copper enamel paint, water based, oil based, acrylic. i’m looking for something that won’t flake or wash off with polishing
Hi, go to your local hobby shop or chemist and ask for some ‘Bluestone crystals’, the correct name is copper sulphate. They are blue crystals that you dissolve a table spoonful in 1/2 a pint or less of distilled water, use the frost off the freezer in your fridge as distilled water. Firstly put pair of disposable gloves on then thoroughly clean the defect to be plated with nail varnish remover, or a suitable degreaser. Then place the part you want plating into the solution for about 5 minutes. Wash in clean running water and very gently rub the patch that you have plated with cotton wool. The copper that has been deposited on the item is very thin and is real copper. To stop it rubbing off again dab some clear nail varnish over the new plating..wash your hands after using the solution, you can store the leftover fluid in a glass jar for future use, but make sure the jar lid is plastic. The object to be plated must be made from metal, as it will not work on ceramics or plastics etc. Remember that the longer you keep the parts being plated in the solution, the thicker the coating will be, up to a point. You can practice on a 2″ nail first it will give you some idea of what will happen. Hope this helps.
