fighter jet?
I saw a very short bit on the discovery channel about how fighter jets stop in a naval carrier. Unfortunately I missed it- had to go somewhere. Anywho I saw that the ship has somehting built into to it to help stop it and help it take off. Any info on this? Thanks all!
The system that launches the plane is called a steam catapult. the system that stops the plane is a arrestor wire which the hook on the bottom of the plane catches there are 4 wires they aim for the 3 wire. If you break a wire there is the barricade which is a reinforged net that forms a wall that catches the run away plane. Though most times the plane will go to full throotle and fly off again and attempt another landing or if not possible ditching the plane.
