What kind of jewelry is the best buy in Thailand? Gold, silver, diamonds, gems, etc? All the above?
I’ll be going to a Thailand in a few weeks, and I’ve always heard that you can get a great deal on jewelry. I’m just not sure where to go or even what to look for. I’d like to buy my wife something. So, anyone know where to find the best deal, and what sort of jewelry in particular is a really good deal in Thailand? (I’ll be in Bangkok and Chiang Mai).
Thailand is the world largest gemstone exporter so I would say all of the above. As for the above poster, it’s not correct. Thai gold can range from 14-18 to 22 K. You’ve got to check before you buy. There’s a large gold mine in Uttaradit, and somehow Australian company got concession to dig it. They digged most of the commercial viable production already. Gold are exported to be processed in Australia and if Thailand wishes, they need to buy back and reimport them for consumption.
