Head Copper
is this a northern water snake? looks kinda like a copper head i have a pic on my profile?

That’s a northern water snake. It isn’t strongly patterned in the photo (I’m assuming it needs to shed) but the pattern I do see is a diamond pattern, it’s thickness is pretty uniform, and it’s head is the classic water snake head with no “neck” and a mouthful of sharp teeth made to grab onto slippery fish and frogs (and likely a bad attitude to match that mouthful of teeth).

Comparing your photo with a copperhead: http://www.venombyte.com/images/venom/snakes/northern_copperhead2.jpg

The copperhead has a more wavy hourglass-like pattern, a very distinct arrow-shaped head, and a fatter body.

Another snake with a pattern and copper head to be aware of in Indiana is the western fox snake, which is harmless just like the northern water snake: http://dnr.wi.gov/eek/critter/reptile/images/fox.jpghttp://www.michigan.gov/images/fox_snake_101555_7.jpg

These guys have rounded heads and a more splotchy pattern.
