Indian Nation
What is an Indian Nation, and by whom is it used or recognized?

Thanks in advance!

If you are talking American Indians, an Indian nation refers to a tribe. Each one is considered an independent nation within the United States and has certain legal rights. Each tribe recognizes other tribes and the US government recognizes each one. There are procedures for recognizing when a tribe no longer exists, but it rarely happens. There was one tribe in the 1890s that went to court in order to disband the tribe as a political entity and ward of the US government and allow their tribal members to take US citizenship status and own their own land instead of keeping the reservation land in trust for the tribe as a whole.
