I have a 1987 “silver” penny with the statue of liberty head imprinted on it. Is it genuine?
The coin is genuine, but the imprint and any process that altered the color were both done post-mint by a private company. It’s a novelty item that a collector of the Lincoln cent series will probably have no interest in, but collectors of oddball items do look for them. They just don’t pay much, certainly nowhere near what these cost from the companies that sold them.
