Loaf Mold

How To Get Extra Work Out Of Your Pans

If you look in most kitchen cabinets, you will likely find an assortment of pans. You will probably find square ones, rectangular ones, and round ones. Often, these are only considered as suitable for baking cakes. However, there are actually many ways to use such pans on a daily basis.

A fluted, center post bundt cake pan is similar in many ways to those used for decades to bake angel food cakes. Bundt pans, and bundt cake recipes, became extremely popular during the sixties. These special pans are often used for much more than an occasional cake, however. When used to bake bread, they produce a bread with a different crust than if a bread pan were used to bake the same dough. The pan can be used to cook a meat loaf that appears much more enticing than normal. It can also create a gelatin dessert that appears to have taken much more time than it truly did.

Square cake pans have a number of uses. At breakfast, you might use one for cinnamon rolls or biscuits. The instant box dinners will normally prove to be a perfect fit for this size pan. It is also the right size to hold a batch of homemade fudge while it cools. It could also serve to temporarily refrigerate dishes that need to be chilled prior to serving, like a macaroni salad.

A cake pan in a rectangular shape is about the most versatile item most cooks own. It can hold a cake that requires little more than spreading a bit of frosting over the top. It is also an excellent dish for items like enchilada or tuna casseroles. Add a lid and it provides an airtight container for deviled eggs while they are chilling before being transferred to a serving plate. You might also use it to prepare a meat loaf, chicken and rice, lasagna, or roast.

Shaped pans, such as cartoon characters, can be used to create special gelatin dishes. They are sometimes used to bake corn bread or to mold homemade candy. Basically any food that can be poured into the pan and then baked or cooled can be turned into a fun treat.

Round pans are essential for baking layer cakes. However, they also make excellent pans for deep dish meat pies or to bake dehydrated boxed potatoes. A round pan is sufficient for a half dozen or so rolls and requires less oven and dishwasher room than most baking sheets.

Cooks often reserve their pans solely for cakes. These pans are sometimes of superior quality to other cooking utensils in the kitchen. By exercising the imagination, cooks can find a multitude of uses for their pans beyond baking cakes.
