Sure, there are good deals on every street corner but they are probably not the real thing. when you are buying silver, you need to Look for the 925 stamp and a “Mex” or “Mexico” stamp these are required by the Government of Mexico. The numbers mean the piece you are buying has at least 92.5 percent of pure silver and only 7.5 percent of another alloy. There may also be a symbol or initials from the artist who designed the piece. Mexico is the same as everywhere else, you get what you pay for. if the deal looks too good to be true,it’s likely not silver. avoid purchasing “Mexican Silver,” also called “nickel silver,” which does not contain any silver and will eventually turn Green.
Check out the main downtown shopping area along Lazaro Cardenas and Boulevard Marina Streets. some of them close for a couple of hours during the afternoon. they open around 9-10 o’clock and close between 6-8 in the evening. there are also many shops scattered along the beach areas, be leary of the pricey shops in hotels…Hope this helps.
