Ngc Early
Have any of you studied the history of Christianity (beyond what is in the Bible)?

Do you realize how many Christian sects existed before an official church was declared?

Do you solely rely on the Bible for your faith?

Do you realize how much information archaeologists have discovered about early Christianity?

My faith is strong and I want to learn all I can about the life of Jesus. History and archeology show us a lot and I hope you all have the opportunity to learn from it.

Sorry, I do not have any specific links for you, but I do suggest watching the History Channel or NGC, etc..

Peace and God bless!

1) Have any of you studied the history of Christianity (beyond what is in the Bible)?

Sure – but not in great depth.

2) Do you realize how many Christian sects existed before an official church was declared?

That depends. What do you mean by “an official church”? Until you define what you mean by that nonstandard term, we cannot possibly answer such a question.

As it is, I would say that the first “official church” was the one established by the apostles in Jerusalem, the one that received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. To the best of my knowledge, no other Christian sects existed at that time, so I know that *your* definition of “an official church” is very different from the one I would suppose is meant.

3) Do you solely rely on the Bible for your faith?

No, but I *do* rely *primarily* on the bible for doctrine.

4) Do you realize how much information archaeologists have discovered about early Christianity?

No. I do not have a doctorate in archaeology, and it is not possible that I would have a reasonably complete idea of just how much information archaeologists have discovered about early Christianity. I would *expect* no one who does not possess a doctorate in that field to have a very good idea, though I suppose that there might be amateur archaeologists who keep up with *all* of the archaeological discoveries regarding that topic.

5) My faith is strong and I want to learn all I can about the life of Jesus.

Sounds good.

6) History and archeology show us a lot and I hope you all have the opportunity to learn from it.

Well, actually, history and archaeology have a lot to tell us about what things were like during Jesus’ time – but very little to tell us about the life of Jesus. We are limited to relying almost entirely on the bible for *that*. In other words: very *very* little is recorded about Jesus’ life or mentioned about Jesus’ life other than what is contained within the bible.

My recommendation: a magazine titled “Biblical Archaeology Review”. Excellent, well-regarded by archaeologists, free from religious bias (articles appear that both support and contradict the biblical account – though, as you might imagine, most support). Some of the articles are free online, and this excellent magazine is frequently available in public libraries.

Stereophonics’ fifth album will inevitably provide more material for the band’s critics, if only for the fact its title has clearly been rather lazily inspired from the back of a rental video case. The music within, however, is anything but laid-back: the employment of Argentinean drummer Javier Weyler, who replaces founding member Stuart Cable, sees the band venturing further along the hard-rock…
