Pound Britannia
Math Homework Help ????

The Oscar is made from an alloy called Britannia. It is 93% tin, 5% antimony and 2% copper. Copper costs about $1.48 per pound. It the “Oscar” weighs 8.5 lbs, how much is the copper in one statue worth? Round your answer to the nearest cent.

I have NO CLUE how to work this problem. Please help me?

Oscar weighs 8.5lbs. 2% of this is copper,

so 2% of 8.5 = 0.17 lbs

1lb of copper = $1.48, so
0.17lb of copper = $1.48 * 0.17 = $0.2516

$0.2516 = 25.16 cents = 25 cents rounded to the nearest cent.
