Help with Siamese Algae Eater questions (compatibility and diet)?
I’ve been on the computer all day trying to figure out how to identify a True SAE. I know how and I would really like one, only if it will go nicely with my fish.
55 Gallon (well-established)
3- Silver Dollars
3- Albino Corydoras
2- Upside Down Catfish
1- Blue Gourami
1- Molly (Doesn’t really count, I’m getting rid of her.)
1- Common Pleco
*Yes I know how large plecos get.
Will the SAE get along well with these fish?
Also if you can answer this: Does the SAE need real algae to thrive, or will it eat algae wafers, like my pleco? (I never really get algae in my tank.)
Yes you can add one in, and yes it also can not live on a diet of just pure algae. It should have algae wafers, vegie wafers, and also real vegetables. Boil some zucchini, broccoli, peas, beans etc and mash them up and add them to your tank. Don’t put in too much though, cause it will cloud your water. Give your algae eaters a few hours to eat it, and then give your gravel a clean so it isn’t left in your tank.
All tanks have some sort of algae, it’s not only the green stuff that grows on the ornaments and the walls, there is also brown algae that is found in the gravel, you probably don’t see that!
Your pleco should be fine in the tank of 55 gallons as well 
So don’t stress!
