What do the mailmen do with all the letters to Santa Claus?
I’m sure many children send letters so Santa Claus. Where do they wind up after they are sent?
I don’t know what they do in other cities – but here in New York, they go to the main post office (33rd St. and 8th Ave.) in Manhattan.
They used to allow people to look through them, if they wanted to find a needy family to donate toys and possibly necessary charitable items to…
I don’t know if they still do it this way – whether people were taking advantage of the system or if there was a liability involved in giving out the addresses of needy families…

Since 1954, volunteers in the small Alaska town of North Pole, where the light posts are striped and curved like candy canes, had responded to any letters addressed to “Santa Claus, North Pole.” They dealt with up to 150,000 a year from children around the world until they were told they would have to stop this Christmas because putting added privacy measures in place was not feasible in Alaska, according to an Associated Press report.
It was announced, amid an outcry, on Nov. 20 that the Postal Service had reversed its decision and would allow the volunteers of North Pole to run the program.
