Walking Liberty
I have what appears to be a walking liberty half dollar, but all of the words and print are reversed. Help!?

What do I have? Is it a mint stamp or what? The only side visible is the eagle side. The other side is rounded over. I definitely don’t think this is an actual coin. Do you know?

Well, if it were a coin die, it would be made out of steel. Dies are also much “taller” than a coin, because they have a “shank” that is used to secure the die in the press.

When you say that everything is “reversed”, I’m assuming that all the letters are backwards, but are they also sunken in to the surface?

It almost sounds like someone tried to make a “transfer die”, using a coin as the original–imagine taking a coin, and placing it’s face against a blank piece of metal. Clamp them in a vise, apply pressure, and you can get the image of the coin transferred onto the metal.

Probably your best bet would be to take it to a coin dealer, who could actually look at it, and maybe tell you exactly what it is.
